So we are home.

It was not easy.

Everything that could go wrong, did.

What was supposed to be an 11 hour trip actually took about 74 hours.

It was a fitting end to our trip.

Our Air France flight was delayed by 2 hours and 45 minutes (on the tarmac) due to a broken toilet. The delay caused us to miss our connecting flight out of NY.  This time is important, because per EU law, if we had been delayed by 3 hours we would’ve been reimbursed for our missed connection.

Instead, we had to eat the cost. The cost of the flight we missed (which was non-refundable), two nights of hotel in Flushing, NY because we could not get out on Sunday due to Henri, and the cost of our train tickets to finally get back to SC. We travelled 12 hours by train just to pick up our car and drive a further 7 hours to TN. We would’ve just rented a car, as it would’ve been cheaper and faster, but there were none to be found in NY.

I am glad we made it back safe and we are looking forward to our next adventure. I am currently setting up interviews for my next travel assignment. I’ll keep you posted!
