So, now that we are actually travelling I finally feel safe reporting the details of our trip. I have been wrong so many times because things changed SO MANY TIMES, that I have really been uncomfortable even talking about it— I know some of you who have been subjected to being around me IRL would disagree, but I HAVE talked about this trip so much less than any other!
We are currently in the Atlantic Ocean, on the Norwegian Sun. We are on day 5 of a 22 day cruise that will call at 12 ports. We embarked from Miami and stopped yesterday at our first port of call, NYC!
Jade IS travelling with us! It was up in the air for a little bit while the Air Force decided how soon she would be leaving for basic training, but she did get to come!
Today we will anchor near Newport, Rhode Island, to tender ashore but afterwards we will spend 5 days at sea crossing the Atlantic.
Our trip will call on several of the Azores’ islands, make several stops in the Canaries, visit Gibraltar, stop twice in Spain, and end in Lisbon, Portugal. From Lisbon, we’ll fly first to Rome, then Athens, and finally to Paris before returning home.
The cruise is on the same ship we had expected to take to Tokyo, a one-way trip that was cancelled by the cruise line due to fears of being stuck in port with passengers who would not be allowed to disembark. Japan decided to again allow tourists, but not until fairly recently. The trip has already changed again twice since that- they dropped a port in Spain and gave us Rhode Island instead of the originally promised Bermuda…. Whoever thought THAT was a fair trade has never been to either Bermuda OR Rhode Island.
The plan is to update the blog for each city we visit, so this could be a series of 15 posts over the next 5 to 6 weeks. Given the internet on cruise ships, however, I am not making promises on how evenly I’ll be able to post them!
Also, there will be an additional feature added to the blog— my dear friend, David (aka Superman), gifted our family with Wonder Woman Pez dispensers for the trip. Wonder Woman will be sightseeing right along with us now!

Aloha Wickers was wondering what happened to Japan. Happy sailing to ya and surely don’t let Wonder Woman fall overboard.

Japan will happen someday! In the meantime, we can’t just sit and be idle, can we??? Do you remember the Wonder Woman from the top of my computer monitor? These are from the same friend- and there are multiples, but we are being careful to keep them all safe! Take care and miss you!
