This entry is not about the travel, or even the destination. There are some insights and notable travel moments, however, those will wait until another post. This post is solely a chance to gush about my immense pride in my daughter and how grateful I am to be her mom and be able to share in this moment of hers!

As many of you know, Jade has planned to join the Air Force for a while. Due to a couple delays beyond her control, it took the better part of a year. Her family enjoyed the year and the extra time with her. We were lucky enough to have her with us on our last big trip, which I will always be grateful for. When I say, however, that she was chomping at the bit to start her military life, please know that I am not exaggerating, AT ALL. She was ready to move on long before we were. She finally left for boot camp on August 21st. Our house will not feel complete for quite a while, as being without her is a big adjustment.

I am happy to announce that last week, on October 11th and 12th, 671 recruits finished Basic Military Training for the United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Our daughter was among them and I have never been prouder. She is happier than I have ever seen her and made lots of friends. Due to her college credits, she went in a rank higher than most recruits and she is currently in Tech School at Keesler Air Force Base, studying Administration. I know how organized my daughter is…. the Air Force will be functioning with much more precision very shortly.

Jade has picked only overseas postings for her “Dream List” at this point, so I am also thrilled to say that our next trip will be to visit her wherever she is! I can’t wait! We spent 3 days in San Antonio helping her celebrate but did NO sightseeing. We fed, and fed, and fed (don’t they feed them in boot camp???) our baby girl and spent the time celebrating her accomplishment, but she’ll have to return for a visit if she wants to see the town. San Antonio is a beautiful city but after almost 8 weeks of minimal communication I just wanted to spend the time with her! WAY TO GO, BABY GIRL!!!!! WE ARE SO VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!
